Everything you need to know about NFC technology for charities

Understanding NFC and how it can be used to fundraise

Are you interested in using Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology for your fundraising? We’ve got you covered! To make it easy for you we’ve created a directory of resources so that you can gather what you need to move forward.

The Basics

NFC is built into all Android smartphones and new iPhones (iPhone 7 and above) and is activated whenever the unlocked handset is in close range (within 4cm) to an NFC-enabled object.

You can buy NFC as stickers which you can embed or stick behind any physical item.

NFC doesn’t need to be visible to work, which means that there’s no need for those disruptive black-and-white clusters of squares (QR codes).

We recommend a small NFC symbol with instructions so that supporters know what to do and where to “tap”. You can use our symbol and the NFC guidelines for this.

Connecting NFC to charity landing pages

NFC is an effective tool when fundraising remotely or on the go, without the need for a contactless payment terminal or QR code.

Connect the touchpoints to our Good Thyngs platform and your physical fundraising assets will take supporters to charity landing pages. You can build these landing pages using templates on the platform, edit them at any time, and use the analytics dashboard to see how supporters are engaging with you.

    Try an experience yourself

Discover some of the charity experiences you can link to using Good Thyngs. Explore a donation page (payments will not be taken), scratch to win, fun selfie filter, and collect all three stamps by clicking on the collectable buttons.

You can’t use NFC online so here's the link and QR code (you also get these when you create experiences).
