RAF Museum’s digital additions to the RAF Cosford Air Show

The RAF Museum used Good Thyngs at the RAF Cosford Air Show. Eight QR codes around the airfield made up the free collectable trail.

Spirits (and donations) soared when the Red Arrows took to the skies once again at the RAF Cosford Air Show. June 12th 2022 saw the return of the much-loved heritage celebration, which hadn’t been held since 2019 due to Covid-19. To say that supporters were excited would be an understatement; British history enthusiasts came from near and far to Cosford airfield for the aircraft demonstrations and tours of the active base. It was so highly anticipated that tickets sold out before the day.One of the organisations present at the event was the RAF Museum.

Among the many activities that attendees could take part in included some of Good Thyngs’ own contributions. This is the first time that Good Thyngs has been used for the RAF Cosford Air Show, though the experiences had been piloted (pun intended) with the RAF Museum previously during Christmas 2020 and for the ongoing Adopt an Artefact campaign.

The Impact

  • £1822.70 donations
  • £1750.66 Gift Aid
  • £16.57 average donation
  • 124 digital participants across the day

The Event

Eight QR codes positioned around the grounds of Cosford airfield made up the free collectable trail. Anyone who scanned all eight codes received a voucher for 10% off the RAF Museum Flight Zone, an incredible virtual reality experience. For the collectables, the Museum used custom artwork imported into the Good Thyngs platform. In addition to the collectable stamps, themed selfie filters were accessible at the event.

Additional donation and newsletter sign-up were encouraged along the free trail, as a way to stay in touch with the RAF Museum and help preserve its historical artefacts. All of the interactive experiences were branded and user friendly, with a smooth digital journey that worked easily alongside the live event.

Speaking Good Thyngs

“I have loved working with Good Thyngs to build a fun and creative way to encourage engagement, data capture and fundraising. The team are extremely helpful and are always on hand to ensure our vision is delivered. It’s been a simple and enjoyable process – we can’t wait to explore what we can create together in future, especially as we begin a large-scale redevelopment project at our Midlands site.”

Helaena Williamson, Development Assistant.
