By Helaena Williamson, Development Assistant at Royal Air Force Museum Midlands
In partnership with RAF Cosford Air Show and Good Thyngs, the RAF Museum set out to create a digital trail to help families explore the annual RAF Cosford Air Show which returned this year in full force!
RAF Cosford Air Show is an action-packed, large-scale event, welcoming thousands of flying enthusiasts, local people, families, and military personnel each year. With over a kilometre of stands, the event hosts a huge variety of traders and exhibitors. The RAF Museum were keen to stand out and remind Air Show visitors that the Museum is a Registered Charity, while also encouraging them to visit our stand on the day. The digital trail was a great conversation starter and handy tool to help us achieve this.
By visiting and scanning all eight QR code stamps dotted around the grounds, trail users received 10% discount voucher to claim at the RAF Museum Flight Zone which includes a 360° virtual reality experience, a 4D cinema, and simulators. Having had a QR code collection point located directly next to our stand, it was brilliant to see, first-hand, visitors engaging with the trail and being excited about the discount incentive!
The creation of the trail was much simpler than we anticipated. We were able to work with an external designer to create our ideal visuals and had no issue importing the colourful designs. In addition to collecting digital stamps, users could also try out one of our fun selfie features. Again, Good Thyngs worked with us to ensure the final product was seamless. We were impressed by how adaptable the templates are and how easy it is to create on-brand results.
The trail was free to use. However, we were able to add a donation and newsletter sign up option. We appreciate how the templates allow us to encapsulate multiple engagement strands in a way that is concise and uncluttered. The user journey is always considered, and the outcome looks professional. The platform is a versatile tool that is used by the entire Development team and the templates allow us to create useful digital tools that we can tailor for each target audience.
I have loved working with Good Thyngs to build a fun and creative way to encourage engagement, data capture and fundraising. The team are extremely helpful and are always on hand to ensure our vision is delivered.
It’s been a simple and enjoyable process – we can’t wait to explore what we can create together in future, especially as we begin a large-scale redevelopment project at our Midlands site.
