Make your events stand out with these quick and easy fundraising ideas
The Jubilee weekend will be filled with treasured moments, meaningful conversations, a glass (or few) of Pimm's, a slice (or two) of Victoria sponge and a generous amount of lemon and Swiss roll amaretti trifle (extra points to the baker!). For charities, the occasion is a chance to showcase what you do in style and we have some jubilee fundraising ideas that will impress the crowds.
These 5 fundraising ideas for the Jubilee weekend will make all the difference to your events and ensure that you’re collecting cashless donations with Gift Aid, sharing your mission, and making new connections.
Whether you have plans in place for the occasion or you’re busy planning your involvement, these ideas are a great add-on to your fundraising materials. Creating donor experiences using the Good Thyngs Platform and distributing QR codes is all you need to do for these to work, meaning you can be up and running in no time.
Selfie experience – let supporters be royalty for the day
Encourage supporters to take a jubilee selfie in aid of your charity by customising the Good Thyngs selfie template with your filters. Supporters could pose with a crown, charity banner or bunting filter and share the photos online to increase awareness of the celebration – and your charity.
You could even cross-reference your campaign to match the occasion like blood cancer charity DKMS (UK). They have created a Princess to Queen campaign to help raise awareness for children in search of a matching donor. The charity has created a selfie experience which can be accessed after making a quick donation with Gift Aid online. The idea is for people to pose with a crown and share their support on social media.
Whether you connect a selfie experience to a trail, donation page, or have it stand alone, they are a great way to spread awareness of your charity – and for supporters to have a little fun.
We have the selfie experience here for you to try using your mobile phone and if you want to donate, visit the website.
Collectable trail
Get people of all ages out in the fresh air and involved in the Jubilee celebrations by creating a trail with stories to tell. Hide QR code posters around a particular location and set your supporters the challenge to collect them all by scanning the codes with their phones. You can even send supporters who are hosting a Big Lunch or Jubilee event the posters to print themselves.
Every time a QR code is scanned you have an opportunity to share something of interest with your supporter. It could be a joke, a fact about the Queen, a selfie filter, or something else.
High Street Safari has used the platform to create a trail for this very occasion. Participants have been set the challenge to find characters from Buckingham Palace by scanning QR codes. The incentive supports Help for Heroes, with an option to donate to the charity.
Whichever way you choose to customise the experience, trails are fun for the community, get people exploring - and makes room for some extra cake!
Community tea parties; let them eat cake
Community tea parties are going to be all the rage during the celebrations. Not only are we celebrating the Queen’s 70 years on the throne, but it’s also The Big Lunch month, an annual event originating from the Eden Project. The campaign celebrates and gives thanks to neighbours and communities and can be anything from a small garden party to large street parties.
So, in the spirit of getting to know one another a little better, why not connect people to your charity over tea? Give your staff, volunteers, corporate partners, or charity advocates QR codes to fundraise wherever they are. Putting the QR code on a business card, sticker, or a small poster will do the trick. Donations using Good Thyngs will go straight to you, and you will be able to see where your campaign is performing the best!
Jubilee Fundraising Quiz
A Jubilee Quiz is a great way to get groups together, conversations about the Queen brewing, and those with a competitive streak hungry; but you shouldn’t rely on everyone having cash to take part. As Elizabeth Rossiter, the Senior Events Manager at SSAFA, notes in an interview with Charity Digital, “tried and tested traditional methods of fundraising can’t be relied on as heavily”.
Placing a QR code on the quiz sheets, or printing them onto sticker paper for T-shirts or collection buckets is all it can take to collect cashless donations before playing. Another benefit of doing it this way is that you can collect Gift Aid and opt-ins without long paper forms.
Having fundraising QR codes optional and easy to access will create additional funds and awareness for your charity. For example, Scotty’s Little Soldiers raised an additional £3,355 at Scotty’s Ball using QR codes that linked to donation pages, raffles and competitions.
