MAMA Academy’s fundraising pack for Easter includes a DIY Treasure Hunt game

Author: Harry Pearce

Virtual charity trail to increase community engagement this Easter

Guest blog by Dora Woolway, Fundraising Manager at MAMA Academy

April 2022 is our 10th anniversary and therefore, this Easter, we decided to create something completely different to engage with our community and corporate supporters. In partnership with Good Thyngs, we came up with the idea to build a virtual Easter Egg Treasure Hunt.

Before the pandemic, we didn’t see much prospect in using QR codes to engage with the public. We know that QR codes have been around for decades, but for years no one seemed to know what to do when they saw them. Post pandemic, this has changed completely!

Fast forward to 2022 and most people now know what to do when they see the QR code symbol. It’ is so simple to use – all you need is to point your camera at the QR code and wait and see what happens next.

With this in mind, we decided to incorporate QR codes into our new Easter Egg Treasure Hunt game using the collectable trail template available to us. We offer this downloadable game FREE of charge to our supporters as an Office Team Building exercise, something fun for individuals, families, schools, nurseries, and everyone to do!

We decided to run this game free of charge, with an optional donation at the end. We are, of course, incredibly grateful for any donation that we receive, but community engagement is just as crucial, in our opinion.

It was an absolute pleasure putting this game together, and the support from the Good Thyngs team has been incredible. We were initially concerned that we were out of our depth to create this experience and that we needed to be quite tech-savvy to come up with a QR code-based game, but fortunately, we soon found out just how simple it was to use Good Thyngs.. We always had their team on hand if we needed any help or advice and nothing was too much trouble

We wanted to maximize the potential of the Good Thyngs platform, and hence we asked Good Thyngs to help us create experiences to go along with each Easter Egg. We wanted the games to be great fun and test to see what Good Things can produce.

The final experiences include selfies, jokes, scratch-off cards, and fun videos. We think that the game is amazing, engaging, and great fun.

If you enjoy the game and can make a donation, that would be gratefully appreciated.

MAMA Academy is the UK’s safer pregnancy charity. We have been helping to save babies’ lives since 2012, by empowering expectant parents with pregnancy information and supporting midwives. Currently, over 1300 stillbirths are being prevented every year. We are positive about pregnancy and committed to raising awareness of what can be done to help save babies’ lives.
